Pavan Dhanjal has been awarded a British Empire Medal for Services to Beauty, launching her Henna Bars across the UK and Internationally in renowned Department Stores.

Pavan Dhanjal was born in East London to parents she adores, who instilled in her great ambition and an entrepreneurial spirit. Aged just fifteen, encouraged by them both, Pavan first created decorative henna designs at a family wedding. She was instantly hooked, intent on being the best possible practitioner of her chosen art form, and determined to develop a unique style, with a flair unavailable elsewhere.

As demand for her skills rose, and after a Guinness World Record breaking win in 2012 (she completed 512 unique armbands in an hour, smashing her 2009 record) Pavan was asked to open a popup henna bar in Topshop’s flagship Oxford Circus Store. It launched to rapturous acclaim and was a sellout success.

Today, as well as travelling worldwide to the homes of her many clients, Pavan leads a dedicated and carefully curated team of henna artists who work in her Selfridges and Harvey Nichols bars. She has collaborated with everyone from Rudimental to Ellie Goulding, Perrie Edwards and Alesha Dixon, and created bespoke designs for the runway shows of Antonio Berardi and Mannish Aurora.

Now a global brand, Pavan’s The Henna Bar continues to grow with outlets across London and the UK as well as Dubai, New York, Milan and Paris.  Further expansion is set firmly upon the horizon.

Pavan is also the author of Part-Time Ink, a guide to creating modern henna designs at home.
